Paul Sorvino was a towering American actor, opera-trained vocalist, poet, artist, and sculptor whose career spanned over five decades. Born in Brooklyn, he first graced Broadway with the 1964 musical Bajour and earned a Tony nomination for That Championship Season, later directing the film adaptation. He delivered iconic performances as mob boss Paulie Cicero in Goodfellas and as NYPD Sergeant Phil Cerreta on Law & Order, while also bringing nuance to roles in films such as Nixon, Romeo + Juliet, The Rocketeer, and Dummy. Despite his reputation for tough-guy characters, Sorvino was a deeply creative soul who expressed himself through poetry, opera singing, and painting. Devoted to his family—survived by his wife Dee Dee and children, including actress Mira—he was remembered not only for his commanding presence on screen, but for his gentle artistry, passion, and the love he inspired in those around him.
